I've just changed my PC from a Dell Inspiron 15 with Windows 10 to a Dell Inspiron 16 with windows 11 and now my HP Smart app can't find my printer although the computer connects to it and prints. But without the HP Smart connection I can't scan?

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your new Dell Inspiron 16 with Windows 11 can print to the printer but HP Smart can’t find it for scanning, the issue is likely related to HP Smart’s configuration rather than the printer itself. Here are some steps to resolve this:

Restart Devices

  • Restart your printer, PC, and router.
  • After rebooting, try opening HP Smart again.

Remove and Re-add the Printer

  1. Remove the Printer from HP Smart:
    • Open HP Smart.
    • Click on your printer (if visible), then select Forget Printer or Remove Printer.
  2. Remove Printer from Windows:
    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Click on your printer and select Remove.
  3. Re-add the Printer:
    • Click Add a printer or scanner, wait for Windows to detect it, and follow the setup instructions.

Reset HP Smart App

  • Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  • Scroll to HP Smart, click the three dots (...) → Advanced options.
  • Click Reset and confirm.

Check Windows Services

  1. Open Run (Win + R) and type: services.msc
  2. Scroll down and check if the following services are Running and set to Automatic:
    • Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    • Function Discovery Provider Host
    • Function Discovery Resource Publication
  3. If any are stopped, right-click, select Start, and set to Automatic.

Update/Reinstall HP Smart

  1. Uninstall HP Smart from Windows Settings > Apps.
  2. Download and install the latest HP Smart version from the Microsoft Store.
  3. Re-add the printer and check if scanning works.

Use Windows Scan

If HP Smart still doesn’t detect the scanner:

  • Open Windows Fax and Scan (Win + S → Search for "Scan").
  • If scanning works here, HP Smart may need additional updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
