I am unable to print. When I get to the HP Smart Printing pop up, it shows the correct printer and the cloud is green with a check mark; it says 'ready to print'. At the bottom of the pop up there are two options: Change printer and Print. The Print option is dark grey and I am not able to click on it.
I have closed and rebooted laptop and printer. I have checked they are on the same network. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the HP Smart printing app.
I can print from a phone, so I don't think the issue is with the printer.
Thanks for your help.

Hi @BHarbour
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like you're dealing with an issue where the Print button is inactive in HP Smart, despite the printer showing as ready to print. Since you've already tried rebooting and reinstalling the app, let's go through some additional troubleshooting steps to get things working.
Steps to Fix HP Smart Printing Button Inactive
1. Check Default Printer Settings
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Locate your HP OfficeJet 8022, right-click, and select Set as Default Printer.
- Ensure that Microsoft Print to PDF or XPS Document Writer is not set as the default.
2. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor from here.
- Open the tool and select your printer.
- Click Fix Printing and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Reset HP Smart App Permissions
- Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Locate HP Smart, click Advanced Options, and select Reset.
- Restart your computer and try printing again.
4. Update Printer Drivers
- Visit HP’s driver update page and download the latest drivers for your printer.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16 - Install the update and restart your computer.
5. Try Printing from Another Program
- Open a document in Microsoft Word or Notepad.
- Press Ctrl + P and select your printer.
- If printing works outside HP Smart, the issue may be app-related.
6. Reinstall HP Smart Using HP Easy Start
- Download HP Easy Start from HP’s setup page.
- Follow the installation steps and ensure HP Smart is fully installed.
If the issue persists, you may need to clear the print queue or reset the printer’s network settings.
