Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I have an HP Smart Tank 7005 and a home wifi system.  The printer has worked for several months but went offline following a BT digital upgrade.  All other devices in the house are working fine with the new router.  I have used the software packages that were downloaded for the printer and the HP print and scan doctor to find a solution but cannot  bring the printer back online.  I would welcome a solution.

Hi @Sand621,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When your HP Smart Tank 7005 goes offline after a router upgrade (BT Digital), it usually means the printer lost its network configuration because the SSID or security settings changed. Let’s go through the steps to bring it back online:

Recommended Steps – Printer Offline After Router Upgrade

1. Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode

Your printer needs to re-enter setup mode to connect to the new router.

  • On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  • The Wireless light should start blinking. This means setup mode is active for 2 hours.

2. Reconnect Using HP App

  • Open the HP app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Tap Add Printer.
  • Select your printer from the list and follow the prompts to connect to your new Wi-Fi network.

3. Check Router Settings

  • Ensure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is enabled (Smart Tank printers do not support 5 GHz only).
  • Disable MAC address filtering or add the printer’s MAC address to the allowed list.
  • If BT Digital uses WPA3, enable WPA2 compatibility mode.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  • Once connected, open the HP app > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Printer Update.
  • Install any available updates.

5. Use Embedded Web Server (EWS) if Needed

  • Print a Network Configuration Page by pressing the Information button.
  • Enter the printer’s IP address in a browser.
  • Go to Network Settings and confirm the Wi-Fi configuration.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
