A slightly naive question perhaps but I am curious -
I have just purchased and installed (eventually) my first HP printer. During this process the instruction was to download and install the HP Smart app in order to go through the setup process to link the printer to my home network. When printing, the default printer is the Smart app and this works fine. Does everything that I print stay within the confines of my network or is anything transmitted to HP, or other, systems?

Hi @Gwyndy,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
HP does not access, store, or analyze the contents of your printed documents when you're printing locally through the HP Smart app.
Here’s what happens:
- Your documents are sent directly from your device to your printer over your Wi-Fi.
- The HP Smart app may collect diagnostic and usage data (e.g., how many pages printed, ink levels, error logs), but not the content of what you’re printing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
