HP Photosmart C4795 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello HP community.

Realizing that the HP C4795 is quite aged.  I believe I am now unable to use the original provided software CDROM software to install this printer to modern PCs without CDROM drives. (Flash is been discontinued with Windows 10).  With that said, I can connect the printer via its USB connection, but unable to configure the WiFi connection using SSID and password.  I am unable to use this printer other than connecting it permanently to the USB port of the HP Elite Book.  I have tried running HP Smart but it fail to find the Printer.  Is there a way to force the printer into discover mode so that it can be connected via WiFi config?  TIA.

Hi @RealStartLLC,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble with your HP Photosmart C4795 All-In-One Printer not being detected by HP Smart when connected via USB, you can follow these troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue.

Check Hardware Connections:

  • Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and your computer.
  • Make sure that the printer is powered on and in a ready state.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues. Turn off both the printer and your computer, wait for a minute, and then turn them back on.

Use a Different USB Port:

  • Try plugging the USB cable into a different USB port on your computer. Sometimes, USB ports can be faulty.

Update HP Smart:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of HP Smart installed on your computer. Visit the HP website or your device's app store to download and install the latest version.

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website specific to your printer model.

Restart HP Smart:

  • If HP Smart is already running, try closing and reopening the application to see if it can detect the printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • You can try resetting the printer to its default settings. Consult the printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

Check USB Cable and Port Health:

  • Try using a different USB cable to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.
  • Test the USB port on your printer by connecting another USB device (e.g., a USB flash drive) to see if it's functioning correctly.

Firewall and Antivirus Software:

  • Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block the communication between your printer and computer. Temporarily disable such software and see if it resolves the issue.

Try Another Computer:

  • If possible, connect your printer to another computer to see if it's recognized there. This can help determine if the issue is with your computer or the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
