HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One Printer

On my Win 11 desktop, HP Smart tells me I've entered the incorrect WiFi password for my WiFi. I have, in fact, entered the correct password.

I read in another thread to reset the printer to the network defaults by pressing some buttons on the printer, however my printer doesn't have said buttons.

@FirmwareGuy, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Smart being stuck on WI-Fi password screen!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 8135e printer is having trouble connecting to WiFi during setup. Since your printer doesn't have physical buttons for a network reset, try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Restart Devices

  1. Restart the Printer – Turn it off, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  2. Restart Your Router – Unplug your router for 30 seconds and plug it back in.
  3. Restart Your PC – Close HP Smart, restart your computer, and try again.

Manually Reset Network Settings on the Printer

Most HP OfficeJet printers allow a network reset through the touchscreen:

  1. Access the Control Panel – On the printer’s screen, go to Setup.
  2. Select Network Setup or Wireless Settings.
  3. Tap Restore Network Settings.
  4. Try reconnecting using HP Smart.

Connect via WPS (If Supported)

  1. On the printer, go to Wireless Settings > Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).
  2. Press the WPS button on your router for 3-5 seconds until it starts blinking.
  3. On the printer, confirm the connection.

Connect Using HP Smart with USB

  1. Connect your printer to the PC using a USB cable.
  2. Open HP Smart and run the setup.
  3. Choose Convert USB to Wireless when prompted.
  4. Enter the WiFi password and complete the setup.

Manually Enter WiFi Settings

If HP Smart still fails:

  1. Go to Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer screen.
  2. Manually type your WiFi name (SSID) and password.
  3. Ensure you select the correct WiFi frequency (2.4GHz is preferred over 5GHz).

If none of these steps work, try reinstalling HP Smart and setting up the printer again. Let me know if you need more help!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I just had the same Wifi password screen malfunction on Win11 with a DeskJet 4155e.

It kept saying incorrect password (it was correct) and would not let me see the text in the password window. Many reboots of both devices, a LOT of frustration.

SOLUTION: installed HP Smart on my phone and went through the same steps ... flawlessly. Give it try.
