The HP Support Assistant Tasks app starts and I am asked "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device". I have not clicked on the app it just opens of it's own accord.  It does not matter if I click the Yes, No or the close button, it disappears for a second, then launches again, after about 20 clicks it finally goes away (occasionally it leaves the HP logo on the screen which cannot be removed).  The app never opens (I don't want it anyway) so I want to either disable it or uninstall it.  When I look in programs, it doesn't appear, so I cannot uninstall it.  So how do I disable it?  I have seen a post about the program being in the task scheduler, but HP does not appear in the list, so really at a loss where to go next.  Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks Dragon-Fur, thank you very much for the very detailed suggestion, I could not find the program in the list of programs nor in apps, even my  Revo uninstaller program failed to find it.  However my friend suggested I go to C/program files (x86)\Hewlett Packard\HP support framework\ HPSF_taks.exe"run to disable it.  So far (touch wood) I have not had the pesky program launch.  Will re-post if it rears it's ugly head again.

Edits / Updates - Correct a path error to HP Support Solutions (Programs and Features)

HP Support Assistant is not mandatory.

It can be removed if you don't want it installed.

Note

If your computer / hardware / software is newer, you perhaps have the HP Support Assistant application installed.

Remove / Optionally Reload the HPSA

Remove the HPSA from the computer.

Restart the computer and log in.

Optional

Download-save-install a fresh copy of the HPSA software / application from the HPSA Website.

Ignore anything here (that) you don't need or is not applicable to your situation.

"Types" of HPSA...

There are two flavors / types of the HP Support Assistant available.

1 ) Software Type

HP Support Assistant Softwarewhen installed, is located in Programs and Features

and  includes

HP Support Solutions Framework (companion software to HPSA)

When installed, HP Support Solutions Framework is located in Programs and Features

OR

2) Application Type

HP Support Assistant Application, when installed, is located in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

At this writing, the application is likely version 9.9.x  or later.  NOTE: The “latest version” will change over time.

Optional > Uninstall the HPSA Application from Apps and Features > Restart the computer and log in

NOTE:  Application type might include the HP Support Solutions Framework as a result of using “Auto-Detect” to find your computer / device at Product Home

Which type  HPSA (that) you should have installed (and can install) depends on your particular hardware (computer) and your Windows Operating System.

Preparation

Optional / Recommended > Before you make changes to your computer:  Create a Restore Point

Stop / Exit all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

Next,

Uninstall the HPSA

Select and uninstall the HPSA type you have installed on your computer...

Uninstall HP Support Assistant Software

FIRST

Uninstall the HP Support Assistant program

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant

Important:  When / If asked whether you want to save any presets / personal HPSA information, respond to have your personal data associated with the program removed along with the HPSA software.

NOTE:  If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and then shows up again, or is otherwise not “going away” when you tell it to do so, try an Uninstaller program.

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

Next

Uninstall HP Support Solutions Framework software from Programs and Features

Search or scroll down and find HP Support Solutions Framework

Select then Right-Click anywhere along the selected program > Uninstall the software

Example -

NOTE:

When installed as part of HP Support Assistant software, HP Support Solutions Framework is a subset of HPSA.

For this reason, HPSA must be uninstalled before the Solutions Framework can be removed.

Restart the computer and log in.

You are welcome.

I was curious -- and I did find (and correct) and odd "/" path error in the instructions.

No matter, of course, and all is done and good.
