Microsoft Windows 11

I have a HP Laser Jet 2604sdw.   It was connected to my network and verified connected from the router page.  My laptop, a G10 had the printer installed but was reporting it offline. The HP Start utility kept reporting I had no printers to install.   After attempting several fixes with no success, I contacted HP Support.  I bought 3yrs support with my G10.  I was transferred, I believe, 4 times over 20 minutes.  Each person telling me they were the wrong person. They kept pointing to the printer as the problem and searching for an expert on my printer model.   Then the last person said she would help and right after hung up.  No one called back.

I attempted to print from a different laptop and had no problem. Eventually used Copilot and internet searches, which recommended checking my advanced network and printer settings from the control panel.  Specifically, "Network and Sharing", then "Change  Advanced Sharing Options'.   I found both 'Network Discovery' and 'File and Printer sharing' were disabled.  I turned them on.  I also tried a manual installation.  I was able to install the printer, and it automated the download of updated drivers.  Afterward, it was online and idle, but generated print errors.  I uninstalled the printer.  But I have updated drivers.

I tried the printer reset approach. Turned off the printer, unplugged, waited several minutes.  Plugged in, turned on the printer.   Did a reboot of the laptop.  Went through the normal Windows 11 printer install steps.  Print a test page.  It worked.  Then was able to print a document.

Not sure which or a combination of the steps solved the problem.  Updating the drivers was a plus.   What is clear, HP Start didn't.   It still cannot find the printer.  HP phone support didn't help.  They were searching for an expert on my printer when the problem was a setting and or driver on my laptop.  Then hanging up on me ... unforgivable.

HP did not help me.  Their tools did not help me.  Perseverance, AI searches.  Windows troubleshooter got me to a solution.
