Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

New install of software EasyStart for HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e wifi to router and pc via LAN to same router works, but ReadIRIS PDF 25 cannot find scan driver to Scan. PDF25 latches onto HP WAIN USB, which does not work because not USB configured.  Result:  cannot use PDF25.  Anyway other than reconfiguring OfficeJet via USB connect to get PDF 25 to work?

Welcome to the HP Community --

Update / Edits - Remove HP Twain section

Relevant to supported versions of Windows

======================

Preparation / Notes

Depending on the context, Easy Start might refer to using the Easy Start installation software wrapper --

Easy Start can (at this writing) install either the HP Smart App (which, at some point will be replaced with "HP App") or the full driver software.  Although Easy Start can purportedly install either the Application or the Full Driver, it won't install both at the same time.

It's not obvious afterwards which app / software you installed unless we know what you selected.

A quick check can help --

The full driver, when installed is listed in Programs and Features.

Applications AND installed software might be found in "Installed Apps"  (Apps & Features in Windows 10).

Dragon Suggests

  • Check what you have installed.
  • If needful, install the full driver.
  • If there is a separate HP Twain executable for this printer software, it will be located in the same folder as HP Scan.
  • Details and Examples are included later in this message.

Example - Windows 11 - Installed Apps -

Full Driver printer software, HP Universal Scan (model dependent), HP Smart / HP App

Note that the full driver software is typically named for the printer for which the driver was installed.

Download, Save, and Install.

If you are given a choice / asked, opt for the "full driver"

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

=========================

               Installed Software

Containers, Shortcuts on the Desktop

            What about HP Scan?

Once installed, the full driver printer software will have added one of two "container" shortcuts on the Desktop:

  • Printer Assistant - named for the printer model

OR

On newer printers and when the new full driver printer software no longer supports the Printer Assistant:

  • Scan Assistant - named for itself

Example - Various Printer related Shortcut icons on the Desktop

Printer_Assistant_Scan_Assistant_Shortcut_Icons_on_Desktop_11Printer_Assistant_Scan_Assistant_Shortcut_Icons_on_Desktop_11

Next,

The full driver printer software, once installed, will have added a shortcut icon for HP Scan

The shortcut for HP Scan that is part of the full driver might be named for the printer model.

=======================================

HP Universal Scan Software - Optional

Separately -- Supported on this printer and Windows 11

Installation of the HP Universal Scan Software adds an "HP Scan" self-named shortcut icon to the Desktop.

NOTE

If you have installed the full driver printer software, you do not need to install HP Universal Scan -- the version of HP Scan that installs with the software for this printer is a functional match to the HP Universal Software.

That said, if you can't stand it, the system will tolerate installing both the full driver and the HP Universal Scan software.

When the software is installed, HP Universal Scan Software adds a self-named HP Scan software shortcut to the Desktop.

Note

Where supported, HPUSS can be installed as standalone or installed after the full feature / full solution printer software.

Open website  HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software

If needful, choose a different OS > Open all

Find / Download / Save / Install HP Universal Scan – Full Feature Software and Driver Webpack

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

Hi Dragon-Fur,

Thanks again for your detailed guidance. I’ve reviewed your notes and wanted to share a few updates and follow-up questions based on my installation experience and system configuration.

🧭 Installation Path Recap

  • I used HP Easy Start, which initially installed the HP Smart App.
  • A subsequent scan update offered the option to “install all scan features,” which I selected. I believe TWAIN was included at that point.
  • My longstanding configuration is:
    • PC connected to router via LAN
    • Router connected to HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e via Wi-Fi
  • This setup has worked reliably for years, including with ReadIRIS PDF 23, which previously detected the TWAIN driver without issue. When I installed PDF 25, it only find the TWAIN Scan USB, which is not applicable to my configuration.

Current Status

  • After reinstalling Windows 11, ReadIRIS no longer detects the TWAIN driver.
  • However, I’ve now confirmed that:
    • The full driver is installed.
    • HP Scan functions normally.
    • TwainUtilityUI.exe is present in:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan\bin\

Questions for Clarification

  1. Is TWAIN supported over LAN/Wi-Fi, or is it restricted to USB-only connections?
  2. Is there a registry key or system-level flag that confirms TWAIN availability to third-party apps like ReadIRIS?
  3. Can HP provide a checksum or version ID for the TWAIN utility to verify integrity?
  4. Is TWAIN officially supported for ReadIRIS PDF 23 with this printer model?

I’m happy to provide system snapshots, registry exports, or folder manifests if that helps clarify the issue. My goal is to restore TWAIN functionality in a clean, supportable way before escalating further.

Thanks again for your time and expertise.

Best regards,
Clarence

My mistake -- so much wasted time.  Apologies.  😞

The Twain executable that was used for the example was an Ethernet connected printer to local network (HP OfficeJet Pro 9025).

After a quick check and test of the OfficeJet Pro 9135e --

I believe the following to be true...

The same edition of the Twain executable, now located in the HP Scan / bin folder for the new printer software, does not connect to the OfficeJet Pro 9135e printer.   The 9135e printer is similar enough to your own printer to make it a "match" for the purpose of this test.

Reference >> C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan\bin\TwainUtilityUI.exe

The printer software structure does not support the IRIS software.

The Twain executable "works" (runs) but the 9135e printer software lacks the ability to recognize the query.

It follows the same limitation is true for your 9125e.

What else?

IF the point of the exercise (using IRIS) were to create a Searchable PDF format file, the printer software for this series of printers supports doing so but only in the context of having enabled the optional HP+ service contract that opens access to premium scan features and for remote printing (Print Anywhere that takes the place of the old ePrint technology).

Searchable PDF format files -- having enabled HP+ -- are created using HP Smart to scan and Save the content.  The Scanned content can be saved to a local file or, using HP Smart Shortcuts, the content can be saved to a supported Cloud account folder.

Yeah, but...

The information does not help you and while the explanation of how Searchable PDF could work might be mildly interesting, is not relevant to your wanting to use ReadIRIS PDF 23.

Offered as FYI ---

HP+ is an OPTIONAL upgrade available for your printer.

HP+ is useful but it's a one-way street.

I do NOT have the offered (an fervently marketed) Instant Ink subscription.
