HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

All of a sudden out of the clear blue sky my printer has an unable to connect error. The problem according to the HPs printer guide is that the printer is unable to connect because a MAC address filtering may be enabled on the wireless router. When I called Verizon they said it's an HP problem any suggestions?

Hi @Nana622,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there may be a miscommunication between your printer and your wireless router. MAC address filtering is a security feature that allows only specified devices to connect to your wireless network. If your printer's MAC address is not on the allowed list, it won't be able to connect.

Here's what you can do to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check MAC Address Filtering on Your Router: Access your router's settings through a web browser and look for MAC address filtering or Access Control settings. Ensure that the MAC address of your printer is either allowed or not blocked on the list.
  • Verify Printer's MAC Address: You can usually find the MAC address of your printer by printing a network configuration page from the printer's control panel. Once you have the MAC address, compare it to the list of allowed devices on your router.
  • Restart Your Devices: Sometimes, simply restarting both your printer and your router can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off both devices, wait for a few minutes, and then turn them back on.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Envy 4520 printer. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for connectivity issues.
  • Reset Printer Network Settings: You can try resetting the network settings on your printer to default and then reconfigure the wireless connection. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to do this.

If Verizon insists it's an HP problem, it's possible that they might not be familiar with the specific technical aspects of your printer's connectivity. However, MAC address filtering is typically a router setting, so it's worth double-checking on your end.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
