Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My HP says that it is not connected and that the network name is not available.

I've tried several "fixes" I've found online and nothing is working.

Hi @Scotzco,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your HP printer is in this state. Force a total network reset on the printer, ensure both your devices are on the same network, and re-establish the connection via the HP Smart App. If standard network fixes haven't worked, bypass the Wi-Fi entirely with a USB or Ethernet cable.

1. Wipe and Restore Printer Network Defaults:

If your printer's network memory is glitched, it needs a factory-default wipe.

  • Touchscreen models: Go to Setup > Network Setup or Wireless Settings > Restore Network Defaults.

  • Button-only models: Turn the printer on. Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel (X) buttons simultaneously for about 5 to 10 seconds until the wireless light starts blinking.

2. Force the Correct Connection Band:

Many HP printers will only connect to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (not 5 GHz).

  • Ensure your PC or smartphone is connected to your router's 2.4 GHz band before attempting the setup.

  • Open the HP App (available on iOS, Android, and Windows) on your device, tap Add Printer, and walk through the setup wizard. It will push the Wi-Fi credentials over to the printer.

3. Bypass Wi-Fi with a Cable (Most Reliable Fix):

If wireless setup continually fails because the router is blocking the connection, a physical cable will instantly bridge the printer and computer.

  • USB Connection: Use a standard USB A-to-B printer cable. Plug it directly into your computer and the printer. The PC should automatically recognize the printer and add it to your devices.

  • Ethernet Connection: Run an Ethernet cable from the back of your printer straight into your Wi-Fi router. Once hardwired, run the HP Smart App to detect the newly wired printer on your local network.

4. Re-Add the Printer in Windows:

If the printer has connection issues on a PC but the paper actually prints via a wired connection or your phone, the print port might be corrupted:

  1. Search for Control Panel in your Windows search bar and open Devices and Printers.

  2. Right-click your old printer icon and select Remove device.

  3. Unplug and replug the USB cable (or reconnect via Wi-Fi), and wait for Windows to detect it.

  4. Alternatively, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and click Add device.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
