Hi @Illy37,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8124e is losing its internet connection. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:
Check the WiFi Connection:
- Make sure your printer is within the WiFi range. If possible, move the printer closer to the router to ensure a stronger connection.
- Check if other devices on the same network are experiencing issues. If they are, the problem might lie with the router or the internet connection.
Restart Devices:
- Power off the printer, modem, and router for about 30 seconds, then power them back on. This can help reset network connections.
- After rebooting, check if the printer reconnects automatically to the WiFi.
Reconfigure Network Settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard. Select your WiFi network again and re-enter the password if needed.
- Ensure that your router is broadcasting on a 2.4 GHz network, as some printers have trouble with 5 GHz networks.
Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer, or check HP’s website for the latest firmware for your printer.
Network Settings:
- If the issue persists, try assigning a static IP address to your printer. This can help prevent the connection from dropping if there’s an issue with DHCP (dynamic IP assignment). You can do this from the printer's control panel or through your router’s settings.
Check Router Settings:
- Ensure that your router is not blocking the printer or has a limit on the number of devices it can connect to.
- Disable any MAC address filtering or security settings that might be preventing the printer from reconnecting.
HP Smart App: HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
- If you're using the HP Smart app, ensure it's up to date. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
Reset the Printer’s Network Settings:
- If nothing else works, try resetting the printer’s network settings. This can be done through the Control Panel > Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults. Afterward, reconnect the printer to your WiFi network.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, let me know if you need further assistance or have any specific details about the error messages you're receiving!
