My printer HP Officejet 6958 is showing certain features are locked by the person that set it up. It was my husband that passed in 2025 and I cannot figure out how to unlock it so I can add my new WiFi/router information. Any suggestions?

Hi @DV-01,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To unlock your HP Officejet 6958 and connect it to your new Wi-Fi, you need to perform a factory reset to remove the previous administrator restrictions.

Here are the steps to unlock the printer and update the Wi-Fi:

1. Perform a Factory Reset (Unlock Method)

Because the settings are locked by a previous "administrator" (your husband), a full reset is the most direct solution to remove that restriction.

  • On the printer control panel, tap Setup (the gear icon).

  • Select Printer Maintenance or Tools.

  • Select Restore or Restore Factory Defaults.

  • Confirm the action. The printer will restart, and the "features locked" message should be cleared.

    2. Alternative Reset Method (If Menu is Hidden)

If you cannot access the menu to factory reset, follow this procedure to force a reset:

  1. Turn the printer off.

  2. Turn the printer on.

  3. As soon as the screen lights up, press and hold the Back button (the arrow icon) in the bottom left corner for about 15 seconds.

  4. When the "Enter Special Key Combo" menu or "Support Menu" appears, select Reset Menu -> Factory Reset.

    3. Reconnect to New Wi-Fi

Once the printer restarts:

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
