Hi @AnnieC101,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
It looks like you're seeing two separate but possibly related issues with your HP printer on Windows 11:
1. Error 500 When Attempting to Print
This is typically a software or driver communication error, not a hardware issue. It may be caused by: Corrupted printer drivers, A misconfigured print spooler or HP Smart app or Windows Print Management conflict
2. “Out of Paper” Message (Tray 1)
Even when paper is loaded, this error can occur due to:
- Misaligned or improperly loaded paper
- Dirty or faulty paper sensors
- Incorrect tray settings in the print driver or app
Step-by-Step Fix:
A. Restart Print Spooler and Clear Queue
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler, right-click > Restart.
- Clear any stuck jobs in C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS.
B. Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer > Remove device.
- Download the latest full driver/software package from: Official HP® Support
C. Fix “Out of Paper” Error
- Remove and reload paper in Tray 1:
- Make sure it’s aligned properly and not overfilled.
- Fan the stack to prevent sticking.
- Clean paper feed rollers:
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Check tray settings:
- On the printer control panel or in the print dialog, ensure Tray 1 is selected and the paper size/type matches what’s loaded.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
