I am trying to connect my printer to my wifi and the HP smart app has found my wifi but I put my password in and it tells me that my password is incorrect, and will not connect to my wifi.

Hi @SusanRoberts420,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi and HP Smart keeps saying the password is incorrect. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Verify the exact Wi-Fi password
• Check the password on your router label or in your router’s Wi-Fi settings.
• Make sure you’re entering the 2.4 GHz network password, not the 5 GHz guest or secondary network.

Confirm the printer supports your network
• Most HP printers connect only to 2.4 GHz.
• If your phone is on 5 GHz, temporarily switch to the 2.4 GHz band to complete setup.

Re-enter the password carefully
• Passwords are case-sensitive.
• Double-check for common mistakes: capital letters, spaces, dashes, or switching 0/O and 1/l.

Restart the printer and router
• Power off both devices for 15 seconds.
• Turn on the router first, wait for full signal, then turn on the printer.

Reset the printer’s network settings
• Hold the Wireless + Cancel buttons for 5 seconds (most DeskJet/ENVY models).
• This clears old Wi-Fi profiles that may block new connections.

Move the printer closer to the router
• Keep it within 6–8 feet during setup.
• Weak signals cause HP Smart to reject passwords even if the password is correct.

Try using another device for setup
• Use a different phone, tablet, or PC with HP Smart.
• This rules out an app or phone-specific issue.

I hope this helps.
