Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

Dear all,

my HP 2820e, cannot complete the set-up procedure. I am trying to connect the printer using Wifi, but when the printer has created its own wifi network and asks for the password, the PIN displayed on the inside of the tray does not work. The OS always says that the password is incorrect.

This problem occurs on Windows 11, as well as on iPadOS 16 and iOS 26.

Thanks for helping out.

Have a nice day.

Hi @Robitaille28382,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 2820e cannot complete Wi-Fi setup because it’s creating its own network and the printed PIN/password isn’t being accepted. Let’s go through a few steps to fix this.

Reset the printer’s network settings
Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel (X) button together for 5–10 seconds until the wireless light blinks.
This clears old Wi-Fi information and allows a fresh setup.

Use HP Smart for setup
Install the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 PC or iPad/iPhone.
Open the app, tap Add Printer, and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your home Wi-Fi.
The app usually bypasses the need to manually enter the PIN.

Connect device to the printer’s temporary network
When the printer creates a network named HP-Setup-<model>, connect your computer or iPad to it.
Do not enter the PIN printed on the tray; instead, follow HP Smart instructions, which often generate a temporary session to complete setup.

Enter home Wi-Fi credentials correctly
When prompted in HP Smart, input your current Wi-Fi SSID and password (the network you want the printer to join).
Ensure there are no extra spaces or typos.

Disable VPN or firewall temporarily
Sometimes VPNs, firewalls, or antivirus software can block printer setup.
Turn them off temporarily during the setup process, then re-enable after the printer is connected.

Update printer firmware
Once the printer is online, use HP Smart or HP Support Assistant to check for updates.
Firmware updates often fix Wi-Fi connectivity and setup issues.

Alternative: USB setup
If Wi-Fi setup continues to fail, connect the printer via USB to your Windows PC.
Run HP Smart and follow the instructions to configure Wi-Fi through the USB connection.
After setup, the printer can print wirelessly and you can disconnect the cable.

I hope this helps.
