HP DeskJet 2852e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Was having trouble with initial set up, kept getting an error code for the ink cartridges and could not complete the set up printer wasn’t seeing there was ink installed?! . Called hp was on the phone for over an hour. Everything was fixed, came into work next day…. And now the printer is not connected to wifi. I went thru the steps to connect and it’s still not working… did a hard reset… still nothing.

updated my MacBook to the newest software and still nothing….

this is the second printer ( different model) that this has happened to.
meanwhile I have a cheap hp printer at home that works flawlessly?!?
I do bring my MacBook to and from work thinking that might be the issue but it connects fine when I get home to my home printer.
what could be the issue?!

Hi @Dawnala,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the connectivity.

If your HP DeskJet 2852e All-in-One Printer keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi while using your MacBook Pro, especially when you bring the laptop to and from work, several factors could be contributing to this issue. Since it reconnects fine at home, the issue may be related to:

Wi-Fi Network Differences:

  • When you move between different Wi-Fi networks (e.g., work and home), your MacBook may have trouble re-establishing a stable connection with the printer after returning to the home network, especially if the work network overwrites Wi-Fi settings.

Network Settings on Mac:

  • Your MacBook might be prioritizing other networks or failing to reconnect to the home Wi-Fi properly.
  • If the MacBook connects to both home and work networks, there could be conflicting settings, or the printer might lose its network configuration when the laptop is taken to work.

Printer’s Wi-Fi Configuration:

  • If the printer’s network settings aren’t properly saved, the connection can drop. Some printers need the network configuration reset or reconfigured to maintain a stable connection.

Router or Network Congestion:

  • Your home router could be experiencing congestion or signal interference, especially if you have multiple devices connected.
  • Some routers assign dynamic IP addresses to devices, which can cause the printer to disconnect if the IP address changes frequently.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Dawnala,

Please find the remaining steps below.

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings:

  • On your HP DeskJet 2852e, press and hold the Wireless button for 5 seconds until the light flashes.
  • Reconnect the printer to your home Wi-Fi network using the HP Smart app or through your Mac’s printer settings.

2. Remove and Re-add the Printer on Mac:

  • On your MacBook, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP DeskJet 2852e and click Remove.
  • Re-add the printer by clicking the + icon and choosing your printer from the list.
  • Ensure it is connected via Wi-Fi and not accidentally defaulting to an outdated configuration.

3. Set a Static IP for the Printer:

  • Log into your router’s settings (via the web interface, typically by entering the router's IP address in a browser).
  • Assign a static IP address for the printer. This will prevent the printer from changing its IP, which can sometimes cause connection issues.
  • After setting the static IP, re-add the printer to your Mac using this IP address in the printer settings.

4. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers:

  • Ensure the printer’s firmware is up to date by checking through the HP Smart app or on HP’s support site.
  • Make sure your MacBook has the latest printer drivers installed. You can update them via the HP Smart app or through HP’s website.

5. Use a Different Wi-Fi Band:

  • If your router supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), make sure the printer and your MacBook are connected to the same band. HP DeskJet printers typically work best on 2.4 GHz networks.
  • Check the router settings to ensure that the 2.4 GHz band is enabled and working properly.

6. Disable Wi-Fi Sleep Settings (MacBook):

  • On your MacBook, disable the setting that puts the Wi-Fi adapter to sleep when the laptop is idle:
    • Go to System Preferences > Battery.
    • Select Power Adapter and uncheck Put hard disks to sleep when possible.
    • You can also try unchecking the "Wake for Wi-Fi network access" option under Energy Saver.

If the problem persists, try printing through USB to test if the issue is solely Wi-Fi-related, and reach out to HP Phone Support if firmware or hardware might be the underlying cause.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
