HP4620
macOS 10.15 Catalina

This is typical HP..

I have a HP4620. When it starts it connects to wifi, no problem. Then in a few hours it’s not available yet the wifi light is solid and the printer and shows good connection status.
I try to contact HP Support but the first thing I get is “Enter Serial”. So I do to be told it’s invalid. So I copy/paste from the HP software which gets its info from the printer and again I’m told it’s invalid. Because of the idiotic way HPs web is set up I can’t go further. So I’m stuck….

Can anyone here shed some light as to why this HP4620 goes to sleep and never wakes up?

Hi there,

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing issues with your HP Printer when printing from Mac computer wherein it does not wakeup from sleep mode.

Please follow the steps listed below to reset printing systems and then add the printer.
1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
2. Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.
3. Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.
4. Click Reset or OK.
Note: Once you click on reset any other printer added to this computer will also get deleted and needs to be added again.
5. If prompted, type your username and password, and then click OK. The printing system resets.
6. Turn off the printer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn on the printer.
7. Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
8. In the Printers window on the Mac, click the Add button.
9. Select your printer from the list, and then click Add.
It might take a few seconds before your printer displays in the Printers list.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Previously I searched my primary Mac and removed all occurrences of HP4620 and HP software. This deleted the printer. I then downloaded the HP software and started from scratch. All went well. I left the printer on but a few days later again, while the printer claimed to be on my network it was again unreachable and the HP software shows it offline.  I don’t have a complicated network. Sagem modem/router, a few WEMOs, an Echo and two Macs and a Lenovo running Ubuntu and two printers, a Brother Laser that never causes any issue and this crappy HP4620 that drops off the network, has to be hand fed the paper and jams even when it does work. Never an issue with anything except the HP printer. I think it’s time to put it in the bin.!!
