Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My HP8610 worked fine as a wireless printer until I upgraded my Linksus Mesh set up to a faster wifi. Now, it sees the network and all neighboring networks, so I know that the antenna is working. I enter the wifi and the password and it spins and spins and errors out. Mac filtering is set to off. The printer suggests that it is a Mac filtering issue but it is set to off.

I use my Linksys iPhone app to set ups network and use both Mac and pc to print wirelessly.  Please advise. Thank you.

Hi @Tele-man57

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 is struggling to connect to your new Linksys Mesh Wi-Fi, even though it detects the network. Since MAC filtering is off, but the printer still suggests it's an issue, let's try a few steps:

1. Manually Assign a Static IP to the Printer

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup → Network Setup → Advanced Settings.
  • Select Manual IP Address and enter an IP within your router’s range (e.g., 192.168.1.200).
  • Save and restart the printer.

2. Check Router Settings for Dual-Band Issues

  • Some Mesh networks prioritize 5GHz, but your HP 8610 only supports 2.4GHz.
  • Log into your Linksys router settings via the Linksys app or web interface.
  • Ensure 2.4GHz is enabled and try connecting again.

3. Disable "Smart Connect" on Linksys Router

  • If your router has Smart Connect, it automatically switches between 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
  • Try disabling Smart Connect and manually connect the printer to 2.4GHz.

4. Reset Printer Network Settings

  • On the printer, go to Setup → Network Setup → Restore Network Defaults.
  • Restart the printer and try connecting again.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit HP’s support page and check for firmware updates.
  • Install any available updates via HP Smart or USB.
