Have installed new Router. Printer appears in Network but is asking for a "direct password". HP Password I have is not working. Can I over-ride this or generate new password?

Hi @MartinS13,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY Photo 6255 All-in-One Printer is asking for a password after setting up a new router, it usually refers to the Wi-Fi network password rather than an HP-specific password. Here are steps you can take to resolve the issue.
Connect to Your Router's Network
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network that your new router is broadcasting.
- If you don't know the Wi-Fi password, check the router label (often found on the bottom or back of the router) for the default Wi-Fi password.
Reset Printer Network Settings
- You can reset the printer's network settings to clear any previous configurations.
- To do this:
- On the printer control panel, go to Setup (the gear icon).
- Select Network or Network Setup.
- Choose Restore Network Defaults or Reset Network Settings.
Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
- After resetting, you’ll need to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network:
- From the printer's control panel, go to Setup.
- Select Network or Network Setup.
- Choose Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to select your new Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
Using WPS (if available)
- If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you can connect your printer using this method:
- Press the WPS button on your router.
- On the printer, press the WPS button or choose the WPS option from the wireless setup menu.
- This should connect the printer to the network without needing a password.
Accessing Printer through HP Smart App
- If you have the HP Smart app installed on your computer or mobile device, you can use it to help set up the printer:
- Open the HP Smart app and add the printer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect it to the new Wi-Fi network.
Notes
- The printer does not have an HP-specific password; it uses the Wi-Fi password to connect to your network.
- If you want to change the Wi-Fi password for your network, you can do so through your router’s settings interface.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
