Hi @Nyumoo
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
The "Printer is in Error Status" message can be frustrating, but it’s often caused by connectivity, driver, or configuration issues. Let’s troubleshoot step by step to resolve this:
1. Restart Devices
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Restart your computer.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This can clear temporary errors.
2. Check Printer Connection
- Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer:
- For USB Connection: Check that the cable is securely plugged in and try a different USB port.
- For Wi-Fi Connection: Verify that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer. Use the printer’s control panel to reconnect if needed.
3. Set Printer as Default
- On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer and select Set as Default Printer.
4. Clear the Print Queue
- Open the Devices and Printers menu.
- Right-click your printer and select See what’s printing.
- Cancel all pending print jobs to clear the queue.
5. Update Printer Drivers
- Outdated drivers can cause errors. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Install the drivers and restart your computer.
6. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP Support website.

7. Check Printer Status
- Ensure the printer is not in Offline mode:
- Go to Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select See what’s printing.
- Click Printer in the top menu and uncheck Use Printer Offline if it’s selected.
8. Update Firmware
- Visit the HP Support website to check for firmware updates for your printer. Firmware updates can resolve bugs and improve functionality.

9. Reset the Printer
- Perform a factory reset on the printer:
