Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

Hello, I have an HP Color LaserJet E45028 printer. When it's in sleep mode, I can't print. The printer won't wake up, as if it were offline. I have to press the power button to start it. How can I fix this problem so my printer is always online and can print even when it's in sleep mode?

I hope you can help me.

Thank you.

Best regards.

@Marcfont, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Color LaserJet E45028 printer.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

The issue you're experiencing with your HP Color LaserJet E45028 printer not waking up from sleep mode to print is relatively common and can be resolved through a few different approaches. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and address the issue:

Step 1: Check the Power Settings

  1. Access Printer Settings:

    • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the settings menu.
    • Look for options related to power management or sleep mode settings.
  2. Adjust Sleep Mode Settings:

    • Modify the settings to extend the sleep timeout or disable sleep mode if that's acceptable for your usage scenario.
    • Ensure that the printer is configured to wake up when a print job is received.

Step 2: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Visit the HP support website and navigate to the driver and software download section for your printer.
    • Enter your printer model and check for any available firmware updates.
  2. Install Updates:

    • If a firmware update is available, download and install it following the provided instructions. Firmware updates can fix bugs that might cause issues with sleep mode.

Step 3: Verify Printer Connection

  1. Check Network Connection:

    • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your network, whether via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
    • If connected via Ethernet, check the network cables and try another port on the router if necessary.
  2. Wake-On-LAN Setting:

    • If your printer is networked, check if there is a "Wake-On-LAN" setting, which allows the printer to be woken up remotely via network activity.
    • Enable this function if it is not already turned on.

Step 4: Update Printer Drivers

  1. Update Drivers:
    • Visit the HP Support website and ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your operating system.
    • Sometimes, outdated drivers can contribute to connectivity and sleep mode issues.

Step 5: Reinstall the Printer

  1. Remove and Re-add Printer:
    • On your computer, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Select the problematic printer, click Remove Device, and confirm.
    • Re-add the printer by clicking Add a Printer or Scanner and follow the prompts.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
