Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My office just got a new printer: the HP Color LaserJet Pro mfp 4301fdw

For background, I work from home 3 days/week and in the office 2 days/week. I don't own a printer at home, so previously when our office had the HP LaserJet Pro mfp m281fdw, I could send print jobs to the printer when I was at home, and it would sit in the queue until I got to work. Once I got to work and connected to the network, the queue would automatically print.

With this new printer, I haven't found a way to do that yet. When I try to print from home, it pulls up a window that says "Waiting for printer connection"

Printer1.png

If I cancel out of this window and try to print anyway, I get another error message.

Printer2.png

I've tried looking everywhere in the settings on both my computer control panel and the HP Smart app and I don't see anything that would allow/disallow this.

I tried to test this at my office by restarting my computer and printer, and then connected my computer to a different network than the printer.  In that experiment, it did queue offline without any problems  and printed once I reconnected to the network.

However, now that I'm back home, it won't work.  Seems like it's related to the distance vs. the network, but I never had this problem before with the previous printer.

Would anyone have any insight on things I can try? We got the printer about a month ago and I've been on my own figuring out how to set it up, so any help would be amazing!

My only workaround right now has been to save all prints jobs as PDFs and then print them when I get to work, but during our busier times of the month, this will be super impractical.

Thank you so much in advance!

-- The Good News --

There is a solution for remote printing and your printer.

-- The Next News --

The solution is not ePrint and the replacement for ePrint works differently than you expect.

The replacement for ePrint is doable.

There are how-to documents and a pretty nice video to help you acclimate to the new method.

-- Print Anywhere - A Brief Introduction --

The replacement for ePrint is Print Anywhere.

Print Anywhere is considered a premium service.

Advanced print and scan features are available on HP+ eligible printers where the HP+ service contract has been enabled and on select non-HP+ printers.

→  → Your printer is eligible for Print Anywhere as part of the second group:

Your printer is one of the "Select non-HP+ printers"

Print Anywhere is accessed using the HP Smart application (Windows) or the HP App (currently Mobile and soon to be Mobile and Windows, too)

The printer email address is no longer accessed or used directly to configure remote printing jobs.

and

The printer's address should not be shared with anyone and it should not be changed.

Thank you for your in-depth response, Dragon-Fur.

While "Print Anywhere" wasn't the exact fix I was looking for, I decided to start going through your tutorial and reading all the resources you provided in the case that that was my only option for queuing prints offline.

During this process, I ended up trying to download the drivers and software for my current printer, because I couldn't remember if I download them when I set my printer up.

Cue a bunch of fumbled clicking, downloading, changing random settings, and deleting things later and....... it worked????

I truly have no idea what the final straw was, but I am now able to queue up prints to my offline printer, and then they instantly begin to print when I reconnect back at work.

Wish I knew what exactly the problem was, but happy to say it works exactly the way I want it to now!

You are welcome.

Good Job!

Installing the full driver is key to many print and scan methods.

In some cases we are told that the "journey" is a key mark of success.

In this instance, the results are the most important.

Happy Remote Printing.
