The WPS button simplifies the connection process
Press the WPS button on your router to turn on the discovery of new devices. Then, go to your device and select the network you want to connect to. The device is automatically connected to the wireless network without having to enter the network password
The printer needs to show the name of the network but no password is needed.
if the printer has no display and only LED idiot lights then you need a smartphone, tablet or laptops. Anything with Wi-Fi
Newer printer have bluetooth for network setup.
HP Smart installs on table, phone, pc, ipad, etc and you configure wireless setup after pairing with printer. The printer and the phone need to be on the same band 2.4 or 5ghz in order to do the setup..
Google using the model of your printer and the phrases " youtube network setup"
Please provide the Product ID or Model name for better assistance.

If you have no router then you have 2 choices:
1. Use WI:FI direct to connect to the printer
2. Manually configure address on the printer and computer so that they are on the same network segment.
I would recommend wifi direct as the best solution as the password is either on a label on the printer or you printout the wifi status page and the password will be there.
download the user guide from support.hp.com and it will explain how to configure the WiFi direct settings.
