Hi @LeahRusso

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The HP Photosmart C3480 printer does not have built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, which limits its connectivity options to USB and possibly shared network configurations via another device. However, I can guide you on how to connect it to your Chromebook using available methods.

Connecting with a USB Cable

Connect the Printer to Chromebook via USB:

  • Plug one end of a USB cable into your HP Photosmart C3480 printer.
  • Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your Chromebook.

Set Up the Printer on Chromebook:

  • Once connected, turn on both the Chromebook and the printer.
  • On your Chromebook, click the status area (where your account picture is displayed).
  • Click on the settings gear icon.
  • Scroll down and click on “Advanced.”
  • Under “Printing,” click “Printers.”
  • Click on "Add Printer."
  • Your HP Photosmart C3480 should appear in the list of available printers. Select it and click “Add.”

Printing from Chromebook

Now you should be able to print directly from your Chromebook. When you go to print a document, select your HP Photosmart C3480 from the list of available printers.

Connecting via a Shared Network Printer (If applicable)

If the printer is connected to a Windows PC or Mac on the same network, you can share this printer across the network and print from your Chromebook.

Share Printer on the Network (Windows):

  • On the Windows PC connected to your HP Photosmart C3480, open “Control Panel.”
  • Go to “Devices and Printers.”
  • Right-click on your HP Photosmart C3480 and select “Printer properties.”
  • Open the “Sharing” tab and check “Share this printer.”
  • Note the “Share name.”

Share Printer on the Network (Mac):

  • On your Mac, go to “System Preferences” and select “Printers & Scanners.”
  • Select your HP Photosmart C3480.
  • Check the “Share this printer on the network” option.

Add Shared Printer to Chromebook:

  • On your Chromebook, open Chrome browser and type chrome://devices in the address bar and press Enter.
  • Under “Classic Printers,” click “Add Printers.”
  • Check the box next to your shared printer and click “Add printer(s).”

These steps will allow you to print from your Chromebook using either direct USB connection or through a shared network printer if you have another device sharing the printer on the network.
