How do I find the PRINTER password? I need to reset router name and I can't get to the printer SETUP unless I have a password.  Printer is 8 years old, and working fine/don't need a new one.  Looked in the Getting Started Guide, tried every password I could have used, looked all over the printer for a label with a password, nothing is working.  HELP!

I also tried admin, and that's not working.

Hi @robineye,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re trying to access your HP MFP M277c6 printer to reset the router name, but you’re unable to get past the password prompt. Let’s go through some steps to resolve this.

Default Passwords

Most HP printers do not have a preset password unless one was manually set.

Common defaults you can try: admin, 1234, or leave the password blank.

Check the Printer’s Network Configuration Page

Print a Network Configuration Page directly from the printer.

This can sometimes list the current settings or give hints about the password.

Use HP Smart or Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Connect the printer via USB or network.

Open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

If you set a password previously and forgot it, the EWS may still allow limited access without a password.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

Since it’s an older printer, performing a full factory reset will remove any previously set passwords.

Usually done via:

Menu → SetupPrinter MaintenanceRestoreRestore Factory Defaults

After reset, you can set up the Wi-Fi network again without a password blocking access.

I hope this helps.
