I have Windows Updates Disabled , I will NOT turn them back on for any reason , Why ? , because after 21H2, which is my current version of Windows 10  , I have had nothing but issues with the stupid Feature Updates , and have had to reformat my PC several times because of it , so I found some software to stop Windows Updates  , and I only get Security Updates and nothing more  , this is wonderful for me  , however it means I can't access ANYTHING in the Microsoft Store because it says I need to Enable Updates in order to get anything (this is BS from Microsoft) and for some reason HP has decided to ONLY allow you to download the HP Smart through the Microsoft Store instead of on HP's Website for Drivers where it SHOULD BE

So I am trying to get my Smart Tank 5000 printer to see my cell phone ,  so I can print stuff from my Phone  , but because of this stupid policy , I can't do it ..... So is there ANY place I can download HP Smart Directly without using or needing the Microsoft store  , I still have no idea why HP would do this , do they owe Microsoft money ?? , does Microsoft have compromising pictures of their Printers ??  , this is basically a STUPID policy and I will NOT put Microsoft updates back on my PC just to print a few things from time to time and completely ruin my PC because of Microsoft Bloatware and problems I do NOT want , and currently don't have because I disabled their FORCED garbage

Sorry for the rant , but I'm really not happy that I am being forced to go to another Manufacturers site (Microsoft) to download a Driver/Software for someone elses product (HP) as far as I am aware Microsoft doesn't own HP  , and if they do HP needs to buy it back so people can use their products how they choose , not how they are forced to because Microsoft wants to control everything  .... Rant Over

Any acutal help would be appreciated  , hopefully a Link to directly download the software so the Printer can see my phone .... Thanks ... Jim

Hi @JimDirt,

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your frustration. Let’s focus on the practical solution so you can print from your phone without enabling the Microsoft Store.

For Windows 10 (21H2), HP Smart is distributed through the Microsoft Store. There is no official standalone HP Smart installer provided directly on HP’s driver page for that model. However, you do not actually need HP Smart on your PC in order to print from your phone.

Your HP Smart Tank 5000 can print directly from a mobile device once it is connected to Wi-Fi.

Let’s go through the correct setup.

Option 1: Use HP Smart on Your Phone Only

You do not need HP Smart on your PC for this.

Step 1: Connect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  • Turn the printer on.
  • Press and hold the Wireless button for 5 seconds until the blue light blinks.
  • On your phone, connect to your home Wi-Fi network.
  • Download the HP Smart app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
  • Open HP Smart and select Add Printer.
  • Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi.
  • Once connected to Wi-Fi, your phone can print directly.

Option 2: Use Wi-Fi Direct

  • If you prefer not to use HP Smart on PC at all:
  • Press the Information (i) button on the printer.
  • Print the Wi-Fi Direct information page.
  • On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings.
  • Connect to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network (it will show as DIRECT-xx-HP…).
  • Enter the password printed on the info page.
  • Print using your phone’s built-in print option.
  • This bypasses the Microsoft Store entirely.

Option 3: Use Classic Driver Instead of HP Smart

  • If you just need to print from your Windows 10 PC without HP Smart:
  • Go to HP’s official support page.
  • Search for HP Smart Tank 5000 drivers.
  • Download the Basic Driver or Full Feature Software (if available).
  • Install it normally.
  • Add the printer in Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • This allows standard printing without the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.
