My printer is connected to my computer with a cable - and suddenly it refuses to print anything because it is not connected to the internet. It took me about 4 hours (with phone support) to get it working a few months ago, and now it just stopped working. I need to be able to print without the printer being connected to the internet as the connection is very unstable. Please help!

Hi @LortePrinter,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I understand how frustrating it is to be unable to print when you've already spent so much time setting it up. Let's try some steps to get your printer working offline so you won’t need to rely on an internet connection.
- Is your computer able to detect the printer when connected via USB, or is it showing any error messages?
- Are you using any software (like the HP Smart app) to print, or do you typically print directly from other applications (like Word or PDF reader)?
- Have there been any recent changes to your computer, like software updates, that may have affected the connection?
1. Disable Wi-Fi Printing Option (If Available)
- Go to your printer's Control Panel or settings menu, and look for any options related to Wi-Fi or Wireless Printing.
- Turn off Wi-Fi on the printer so that it relies solely on the USB connection.
2. Set Printer to “Offline” Mode in Windows
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers on your computer.
- Right-click your HP DeskJet 2822e and select See what’s printing.
- In the window that appears, click on Printer and ensure Use Printer Offline is checked.
3. Check and Reset USB Connection
- Disconnect the USB cable from both the computer and printer, then reconnect it securely.
- Try a different USB port on your computer, if available.
- Wait for the computer to recognize the printer and confirm that it’s ready.
4. Set the Printer as Default and Restart Print Spooler
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers and ensure your HP DeskJet 2822e is set as the default printer (a checkmark should appear on it).
- Open the Run box by pressing Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- In the Services list, locate Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
5. Install Basic Drivers for USB Printing
- Visit the HP support website and download the basic printer drivers for the DeskJet 2822e if they’re available.
- Reinstall the drivers and follow the steps to set up the printer over USB without requiring the internet.
