I own a number of printers, but this printer doesn't seem to support ePrint. I can't seem to find a good explanation of how to use what seems to be the follow-on 'solution' called HP Print Anywhere. When I web search it, I get an explanation for ePrint, but the menus aren't there in my HP Smart account.

This "e" version of the printer does not support ePrint.
For example, there is no mention of ePrint in the User Guide

I cannot offer an answer that explains why your printer cannot be added to your HP Smart / HP Connected account.

Not ePrint - Print Anywhere works similarly but is not the same animal...

OK, got that working -- thanks. I haven't tested away from the LAN on which the printer is installed, but will do so later today.
This printer seems to 'groom itself' repeatedly, even when no printing is going on. It happens several times a day. It's a bit noisy. I also note that when I print to it, it can take several minutes for the print 'job' to come out. Have I got a lemon?

You are welcome.
Excellent.
Maintenance is expected - several times a day might be considered excessive. ?
Depending on how long you have had the unit, it might be time for quality checks / maintenance.
HP OfficeJet Pro 9010, 9020 Printers - Black Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues
Slow printing might be a sign of the connection type (not likely but along with the excessive maintenance, it could be a symptom).
Lots of options on this series - it handles Ethernet, Dual Band Wireless, and even USB.
Product Specifications for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer (1G5L3A)
Connectivity
Ports | 1 USB 2.0; 1 Host USB; 1 Ethernet; 1 Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n; 2 RJ-11 modem ports |
Wireless capability | Yes, built-in WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n |
Storage device and direct print support | Front-facing USB/Flash drive |
Ethernet is most stable (in my old-fashioned opinion).
Dual Wireless is convenient.
USB (also my opinion) is a "last resort but works" option.
This troubleshooting document covers a number of checkpoints - worth a few minutes of time, I think:
Windows and MacOS
Start here – Solutions presented in the order to be completed:
HP printer is offline or not responding
What else?
If you are using Wireless, the connection might be switching between frequencies.
Aside from the fact that switching frequencies just doesn't work on some printers, switching bands might work but delay response (depending on when / how the switch is made by the router).
If the router supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz,
If the router supports assigning separate SSID network names for each frequency,
Assign unique SSID network names to each band,
Connect the printer to the band you want it to use.
This won't help a band hopping computer but it will settle the printer so you can eliminate that source of "change".
Example - Dual Band Router - Wireless Connection
SSID_Dual_Band_Example_6
What else?
IF you have not done so,
Consider that slow printing might be symptomatic of Windows Settings (covered in the troubleshooting document) and can be the result of missing software.
Incorrect settings, including when the printer is unaware of the paper size / type loaded in the printer, more often result in errors rather than slow-downs.
Please ignore this section if it is not relevant to your situation.

Printer Software
The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.
Preparation
If you have not done so,
In addition to the HP Smart application,
Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.
HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.
Printer Software Check
Notes
If the full driver printer software is installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.
The installation of the printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.
The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

Printer software not installed?
Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software
For printers that support the option,
Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.
- Home Page - HP Easy Start
- Open Category Software and Drivers
- Topic: Software-Utility
- Download-and-Save the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
- If using USB: Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
- Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
- When asked, Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
- If using USB: Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
- After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.
Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey
- Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
- About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
- You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
- If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription. Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
- Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection while installing printer software.
- Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.

This started off as a new all-in-one printer that, upon setup, 'groomed itself' excessively (cleaned cartridges, moved back and forth, etc.). That seems to have subsided with time, but now I'm seeing that the yellow and blue cartridges (all 962xl) are showing as low after only 20 pages have been printed. Could one problem be to do with the other? Could I have been shipped half-dried-out ink cartridges? When I pull the printer status page, the cartridge levels show as:
Cyan: 'Low'
Magenta '100'
Yellow 'Low'
Black '>500'
HP in a CS chat told me that they suspected the printer was defective, and suggested I return it. But if I return it for another one out of the same lot, are not my chances of getting more garbage cartridges similar?
Thanks for your valued advice.
