How do I set up the mouse and keyboard Bluetooth on the desktop

Hi Mickeybeann

Setting up a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard on a desktop is a straightforward process, though the steps vary slightly depending on whether you are using a Windows PC or a Mac.

1. Prepare Your Hardware

Before trying to connect, ensure your peripherals are ready to communicate with your desktop:

  • Power: Turn the devices on. Check that they have fresh batteries or are fully charged.

  • Pairing Mode: Most devices have a dedicated Pairing or Connect button (often on the bottom).

    • Press and hold this button for 3–5 seconds until a light starts flashing. This indicates the device is "discoverable."

    • Note: Some keyboards (like Logitech Easy-Switch) require you to hold down a specific numbered key (1, 2, or 3) to enter pairing mode.

2. Setting Up on Windows (10 or 11)

  1. Open Settings: Press the Windows Key on your keyboard (or click the Start button) and type "Bluetooth", then select Bluetooth and other devices settings.

  2. Turn on Bluetooth: Ensure the Bluetooth toggle is switched to On.

  3. Add Device: Click the Add device button (or the large + icon).

  4. Select Bluetooth: Choose the first option labeled "Bluetooth (Mice, keyboards, audio, etc.)".

  5. Pair: Your computer will scan for nearby devices. Click on the name of your mouse or keyboard when it appears.

    • For Keyboards: Windows may display a 6-digit code. Type this code on your Bluetooth keyboard and press Enter.

3. Setting Up on macOS (iMac or Mac mini)

  1. Open System Settings: Click the Apple Menu () in the top-left corner and select System Settings (or System Preferences).

  2. Go to Bluetooth: Click Bluetooth in the left sidebar.

  3. Find Device: Ensure Bluetooth is On. Your Mac will automatically look for nearby devices.

  4. Connect: Hover over your mouse or keyboard in the list and click Connect.

For Keyboards: If prompted, type the code shown on the screen using the Bluetooth keyboard and press Return.

Troubleshooting & Tips

  • Missing Bluetooth? If you don't see a Bluetooth option in your settings, your desktop motherboard might not have it built-in. You can fix this easily by buying a small USB Bluetooth Dongle for about $10–$15.

  • No Working Mouse? If you are setting up a brand-new desktop and have no mouse at all, you can navigate Windows using the Tab and Arrow keys. On Mac, use Command + Space to open Spotlight and type "Bluetooth."

  • Interference: Keep the mouse and keyboard within 3 feet of the desktop tower during the initial pairing process to ensure a strong signal.

Would you like me to find the specific pairing instructions for your specific brand and model of mouse or keyboard?
