HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

I am unable to connect my printer to a chromebook. It will not even find the device on search. Is there a way to do this?

Hi @Jennah24,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Connecting an HP printer to a Chromebook involves a few steps. Make sure your printer and Chromebook are connected to the same Wi-Fi network before you begin. Here's a general guide to help you connect your HP printer to a Chromebook.

Check Printer Compatibility: Ensure that your HP printer is compatible with Chromebook. Not all printers support Chrome OS, so it's essential to verify compatibility.

Update Chrome OS: Make sure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS. Updates can include improvements and bug fixes that might affect printer compatibility.

Connect to the Same Wi-Fi Network: Both your printer and Chromebook need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is crucial for them to communicate with each other.

Enable Google Cloud Print (if necessary): Google Cloud Print is a service that allows you to print from any device, including Chromebooks. To enable it:

  • Open Chrome on your computer.
  • In the top right, click on the three dots, then go to "Settings."
  • Scroll down and click on "Advanced."
  • Under "Google Cloud Print," click "Manage."
  • Add your printer if it's not listed.

Use the Built-in Print Option: Chromebooks come with built-in print functionality. To print a document or page:

  • Open the document or webpage you want to print.
  • Press "Ctrl + P" or go to the three-dot menu and select "Print."
  • Choose your printer from the list.

Add Printer Manually (if necessary): If your printer is not automatically detected, you can add it manually:

  • Open Settings on your Chromebook.
  • Under "Advanced," go to "Printers."
  • Click "Add Printer" and follow the prompts to add your printer manually.

Install HP Print Service Plugin (if necessary): Some HP printers may require the installation of the HP Print Service Plugin. You can find and install it from the Google Play Store on your Chromebook.

Check HP Support: Visit the HP support website for any specific guides or drivers related to your printer model and Chromebook compatibility.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
