I have an HP Envy pro 6400 series. I want to print but it won’t let me unless I sign up for an Instant Ink plan. Is there anyway around this?

Hi @Jaylee2121,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To use your HP ENVY Pro 6400 All-in-One Printer without signing up for an HP Instant Ink plan, you can disable the Instant Ink service or opt out of any prompts asking you to enroll. Here’s how you can bypass the Instant Ink requirement and use your printer:

1. Opting Out During Printer Setup

During the initial setup of your HP ENVY Pro 6400 printer, you might be prompted to sign up for HP Instant Ink. To avoid enrolling in the service:

  • Skip Enrollment: When the prompt to sign up for Instant Ink appears, look for a "Skip," "No Thanks," or "Remind Me Later" option and select it. This allows you to proceed with the printer setup without enrolling in the program.

2. Disable HP Instant Ink Enrollment Notifications

If you have already set up your printer and are receiving notifications to sign up for Instant Ink:

  • Access HP Smart App: Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Disable Notifications: Go to the settings or preferences section within the HP Smart app and disable any notifications related to HP Instant Ink.

3. Use Standard Cartridges

HP printers often come with Instant Ink-ready cartridges that are linked to the Instant Ink service. To print without enrolling in Instant Ink:

  • Install Standard HP Cartridges: Purchase and install standard HP ink cartridges that are not associated with the Instant Ink program. These can be found at most office supply stores or online retailers.

4. Ensure Firmware is Up-to-Date Update the firmware on an HP printer

Make sure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date to ensure compatibility with standard cartridges:

  • Update Firmware: Go to the HP support website, find your printer model, and download any available firmware updates. Install them following the instructions provided.

5. Reset the Printer

If your printer continues to prompt for Instant Ink enrollment, resetting it may help:

  • Factory Reset: Perform a factory reset on your printer to clear any settings associated with the Instant Ink program. Refer to your printer’s manual or the HP website for instructions on how to reset your specific model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
