Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Product: LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw printer (It has no touch screen).

Problem: I have changed WIFI password on router. But don't know how to update it on my printer. HP's help page says to reset printer WIFI to default setting. Then what? I still don't see a place to change password (I am not saying WSP PIN).

Hi @1FW

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To update the Wi-Fi password on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw printer, you will need to follow a few steps after resetting the printer's Wi-Fi settings to default. Since this model doesn't have a touchscreen, you'll use the printer’s control panel or a web-based configuration tool to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Here’s how to update the Wi-Fi password on your printer:

1. Reset the Printer’s Wi-Fi Settings to Default

Since you’ve changed the Wi-Fi password on your router, the printer needs to be reconnected to the network. Here’s how to reset the Wi-Fi settings:

  • Press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button (the red X) simultaneously for about 5 seconds.
  • This will reset the printer’s network settings to the default, including clearing the old Wi-Fi network information.

2. Reconnect to the New Wi-Fi Network

After the reset, you’ll need to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network with the new password.

There are two main ways to do this:

Option 1: Use the HP Smart App (easiest method)

  1. Download the HP Smart app (if you don't already have it) on your smartphone or computer. It's available on both iOS and Android.
  2. Open the HP Smart app and add your printer.
  3. Follow the app's instructions to reconnect your printer to your Wi-Fi network.
    • The app will walk you through the process of selecting your Wi-Fi network and entering the new Wi-Fi password.
  4. Once connected, the printer should show up on the network and be ready for use.

Option 2: Use Wi-Fi Direct (if you don’t want to use the app)

You can also set up the printer’s Wi-Fi using the Wi-Fi Direct method:

  1. Press the Wireless button and Information button on the printer (the button with the "i" symbol) simultaneously for about 5 seconds.
    • This will print a network configuration page which includes the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct name (SSID) and password.
  2. Connect your computer or mobile device to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network.
  3. Open a web browser on the device and type the printer’s IP address (listed on the configuration page) in the address bar.
  4. This will open the printer's embedded web server (EWS). From here, you can navigate to the network settings and manually input your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and new password.
