Hi @Baleigh,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Error E6 on HP printers usually indicates a problem with the printhead or a paper jam. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix the issue.
Turn Off the Printer:
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Wait for about 30 seconds.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Open the paper tray and remove any paper.
- Check inside the printer for any jammed paper or foreign objects. Gently remove any obstructions.
Check the Printhead:
- Open the printhead access door (the part where you replace the ink cartridges).
- Remove the ink cartridges and set them aside.
- Remove the printhead. You might need to consult your printer's manual for instructions on how to do this, as the process can vary by model.
Clean the Printhead:
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly dampened with water to clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the printer where the printhead sits. Be gentle to avoid damage.
Reinstall the Printhead and Cartridges:
- Reinsert the printhead into the printer and ensure it is securely seated.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges into the printhead.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve errors. Check the HP website or the printer’s settings for any available updates.
Reset the Printer:
- With the printer turned on, unplug it from the power source. Wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
