How do I print more than one photo on a sheet of A4 using a HP laptop and Officejet 3835 printer?

The printer is unaware of what it is printing --
Yes, depending on your Operating System / version and the type of application or software you have available, you can certainly print multiple photos on one sheet of paper.
If you are using a mobile device (tablet, phone), either find an "app for that" on your app store that can setup this type of job OR open a document (for example, Pages in iOS) > Insert the photos you want to print sized to fit on the first page of the document > Save the document to save your work > Print the document OR Export the document to PDF and print (perhaps using HP Smart).
Windows provides the means to print multiple photos on one sheet of paper.

Also using Windows, HP Smart can print multiple photos on one sheet of paper.
and / or
In general,
Third party print software and apps provide methods to print what you want and the way you want it.
