The control panel of the printer is locked. I do not have credentials to unlock since I did not set it up. I do not know the Admin Name or Password either

Hi @jekiya-1668_25e

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that the control panel is locked on your HP printer is not tied to HP, Windows, or Office defaults  it was set manually by whoever originally configured the printer. There is no universal password. If you don’t know the admin credentials, the only way to regain access is to perform a factory reset, which clears the admin password and restores default settings.

Perform a Factory Reset

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults (menu names vary by model).
  • Alternatively, press and hold the Cancel + Wireless buttons together for 5–10 seconds (on many DeskJet/Smart Tank models).
  • This clears all custom settings, including the admin password.

Reconfigure the Printer

  • After reset, reconnect the printer to your Wi‑Fi network.
  • Re‑add the printer to your computer or HP Smart app.
  • You can set a new admin password if desired.

Reset Option Is Locked

  • Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address into a browser.
  • Look for Restore Factory Settings under the Security or Administration tab.
  • If still blocked, contact HP Support for a service reset.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
