I am not very techy, and when I set up my printer a long time back, I think I change the password from the one that came with the printer. I have no idea What could possibly be and resetting to factory default didn’t clear it out and when I print out the information on the computer it still has a weird number that I believe is the factory password, but that won’t work either.help.

Hi @Tab426,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you’ve changed the password on your HP Envy 4520 printer and can’t remember it, and resetting the printer to factory settings hasn’t resolved the issue, you’ll need to perform a few steps to regain access.
Print the Network Information Page:
- On the printer control panel, navigate to the Wireless or Network Settings menu.
- Select Print Reports and then choose Network Configuration Page or Network Information Page.
- This page should display details about your printer’s network settings, including any network passwords that were set when the printer was first configured.
Use the Printer’s Default Password:
- Check if there’s a section labeled Wi-Fi Direct Password or WPS PIN on the printed page. This might be a default password, which could be the original password you set up when initially installing the printer.
- Sometimes, the default password for your HP printer might be written in a format like HP-<6-digit number>. If so, try using this default password.
Resetting to Factory Defaults:
- If the network information page doesn’t help, you can reset the printer to its factory default settings by performing a manual reset.
- Turn off the printer.
- Hold down the Wireless button (usually indicated with a Wi-Fi symbol) and Power button simultaneously.
- Keep holding them for about 10 seconds.
- After releasing the buttons, the printer will turn on and reset to factory settings.
- Reprint the Network Configuration page after the reset to see if the default password is listed.
Recovering Password via HP Connected Account:
- If you have set up an HP Connected account (e.g., HP ePrint), try logging into that account to see if it can provide any details about your printer settings.
- The password might be saved there if it was linked to your printer setup.
Update Printer Password:
- Once you gain access to your printer, go to the Wireless or Network Settings menu.
- Update your password as necessary to avoid further issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
