Can I register for hp+ when all I have is mobile hotspot?

Welcome to the HP Community --

 

The short Answer:  Sorry, No

 

A Hotspot is not generally considered a "for sure" or stable method to keep the printer connected on the network long enough and often enough to all the printer to be monitored and supported.

 

-- For those reading --

 

HP+ is an optional non-subscription service change to the way you use your HP+ capable printer.

  • For new printers, enabling HP+ adds a year to the standard Warranty.
  • On all HP+ capable printers, enabling HP+ adds premium print and scan features to your printer, including Print Anywhere.  -- Note -- The premium print and scan features are also available on select non-HP+ printer models.
  • On all HP+ capable printers, enabling HP+ requires that you use HP genuine ink (not refills) for the life of the printer.

 

HP+ includes an optional Trial / Subscription to Instant Ink.

HP Instant Ink and HP+ are two separate service contracts.

An HP Instant Ink subscription is not required as part of the HP+ setup or the HP+ service contract.

I've been informed recently that should you decide start a Trial or a subscription to Instant Ink that this also automatically forces the printer into HP+

AND

Because HP+ requires both monitoring and using HP Genuine Ink,

HP+ triggers the requirement that you use HP genuine cartridges for the life of the printer.

 

Although (to date) I have not confirmed Instant Ink triggers HP+, I strongly urge anyone who has an HP+ "e" printer to contact Instant Ink Support BEFORE enrolling in a Trial or Subscription.

Well that sucks. I clearly told the sales representative that I did not have WiFi, only mobile hotspot. I want all the features I paid for. Ugh. Thanks for the response!

Sales people say things.

 

Neither one of these services -- that I've found -- actually say how often the connection must be available.

 

Both warn that too much "down time", that is, where the printer is not connected to the Internet, will result in the printer not being able to print.

 

Instant Ink can tolerate periods of "not being connected" --

HP+ can tolerate periods of "not being connected" --

 

Were it mine to do,

I'd contact Instant Ink Support and ask an actual support agent.

 

My suggestions --

I have hp+! I called support and they said it was fine for me to sign up for it. Yay! Thank you Dragon!
