Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.
HP Recommended

I had a power surge because of a replacement of an electrical meter in my home.  One of the pieces of equipment for the internet was damaged and AT&T replaced it.  All tvs and my computer worked again.  However, my HP Envy 4500 will not recognize my laptop and won't print anything from online.

If I need to print something now, I have to send it to my phone and then print it.  Why that works I have no idea.

All I know is that the printer was working just fine until work was done on the internet connection.

They say it is an HP issue and not AT&T.

Hi @AMO3421,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the power surge and the subsequent replacement of equipment may have disrupted the connection between your HP Envy 4500 printer and your laptop. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Restart your Printer and Laptop:

  • Turn off your printer and laptop.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait for it to initialize.
  • Turn on your laptop.

Check Wireless Connection:

  • Make sure that your printer and laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Check if the Wi-Fi indicator on your printer is solid, indicating a stable connection.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the HP Envy 4500 software from your laptop.
  • Visit the official HP website and download the latest driver and software for your printer model.
  • Install the downloaded software and follow the on-screen instructions.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your HP Envy 4500 on the HP support website.
  • If an update is available, follow the instructions to update the firmware.

Check Firewall and Security Software:

  • Your security software or firewall settings on your laptop might be blocking the connection. Temporarily disable them to see if it resolves the issue.

Reset Network Settings on the Printer:

  • On the printer control panel, navigate to the Wireless or Network settings.
  • Find the option to reset the network settings and confirm the action.
  • Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Check for IP Address Changes:

  • Ensure that the IP address of your printer has not changed. You can check this on the printer's control panel or by printing a network configuration page.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
