HP OfficeJet 6958 All-in-One Printer

Last week we updated from Spectrum to AT&T fiber optics and my printer cannot connect to the router. I have tried rebooting the router, turning off the printer, unplugging the printer. I have tried to add the name of the network, nothing is does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you

@MaryC922, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding trouble connecting to the new AT&T fiber router!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 6958 is having trouble connecting to the new AT&T fiber router. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you reconnect:

1. Check Network Compatibility

  • Ensure that your AT&T router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz network. Some HP printers do not support 5GHz.
  • If your router is dual-band (2.4GHz & 5GHz), separate the bands and try connecting to the 2.4GHz network.

2. Restart Everything in the Right Order

  1. Turn off your printer and unplug it.
  2. Restart your AT&T router and wait for it to fully boot up.
  3. Plug in and turn on your printer.

3. Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  1. On your printer's Control Panel, go to Wireless Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
  2. After resetting, go to Wireless Setup Wizard and select your AT&T Wi-Fi network.
  3. Enter the correct Wi-Fi password carefully.

4. Use HP Smart App (Alternative Setup)

  • Download the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile device.
  • Connect your device to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Open HP Smart, add your printer, and follow the prompts to connect it to the network.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • If possible, connect the printer to your PC via USB and update its firmware using HP Support Assistant.

If none of these work, try factory resetting the printer and setting it up as a new device. Let me know if you need detailed steps for that! 😊

We hope our assistance has been helpful!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
