Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP Color LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M776zs
Microsoft Windows 11

I am encountering three problems:

1. I have a HP M776 and cannot work out how to connect it to the Wifi network without plugging in the Ethernet cable. Is this possible?

2. I need to find a way to scan to a PC folder direct from the printer/scanner. is this possible?

3. When scanning, I need to scan multiple pages into an PDF document and not individual ones, can this be achieved?

Hello,

1. Connecting the M776zs to Wi-Fi

The M776 series does not include built-in Wi-Fi hardware.
To use wireless, the device must have one of the following:

  • HP Jetdirect 3100w BLE/Wireless Accessory

  • HP Jetdirect 2900nw Print Server

If neither module is installed, the printer cannot connect to Wi-Fi.
In that case, your only options are:

  • Use Ethernet, or

  • Install an HP-supported Jetdirect wireless module, or

  • Use a wireless bridge on the network side (not preferred; adds complexity).

This is expected behavior — the M776 is an Enterprise-class device and ships Ethernet-only by default for security.

2. Scan to a PC Folder (SMB Scanning)

Yes, this is supported and is the standard method for Windows 11 environments.

On the PC

  1. Create a folder, e.g., C:\Scans.

  2. Right-click → Properties → Sharing → Advanced Sharing

    • Enable Share this folder

    • Permissions → Add Everyone with Change + Read (for testing).
      Later you can tighten security.

  3. Go to Properties → Security and make sure your user account has Modify permission.

  4. Confirm your PC’s hostname and username, and ensure the PC’s firewall allows File and Printer Sharing.

On the Printer (EWS)

  1. Access the printer’s IP in a browser (EWS).

  2. Go to Scan → Scan to Network Folder Setup.

  3. Add a new folder:

    • Folder Path: \\<PC-HOSTNAME>\Scans

    • Username: Windows username

    • Password: Your Windows password

    • Save and test.

If it fails, Windows 11 might be blocking SMB1. The M776 uses SMBv2/v3, so leave SMB1 disabled — no issue there.

3. Multi-page PDF Scanning

Yes, completely supported.

From the M776 Control Panel

  1. Tap Scan

  2. Select USB, Email, or Network Folder (whichever workflow you use).

  3. Load all pages into the ADF.

  4. Open Settings → ensure File Type = PDF (default is usually fine).

  5. Press Start — the printer will automatically generate one PDF containing all pages.

If scanning from the flatbed

  • After each page, the UI will prompt “Add page?” → select Yes until done → then Finish.

If using HP Smart or HP Scan (PC)

  • Both apps have a Combine into single PDF toggle.

  • But since you asked specifically for from the device, the ADF workflow above is the correct method.
