Hi @ALVAGMZ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how unsettling it can feel to inherit a printer that's tied to someone else's HP account. Let’s resolve this so you can reclaim full control:

Step 1: Try Removing via the Previous Owner

Unfortunately, HP can’t unlink the device for you due to privacy safeguards. The fastest path is to ask the prior owner to:

  1. Sign in to their HP app or HP account online.
  2. Go to My Devices or Printers.
  3. Select the printer in question.
  4. Click Remove printer or Delete device from account.

Step 2: Factory Reset the Printer

If contacting the previous owner is not possible, a factory reset often clears remaining links:

  • Turn the printer off.
  • Hold the Wireless (Wi-Fi) button and the Power button together for ~5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light flashes.
  • Release and let it fully reset.

Once done, the printer’s memory, including its account link, should be cleared.

Step 3: Remove the Printer from the HP App

After the reset (or even before), make sure the printer is removed from the HP app on your device:

On Windows or macOS:

  1. Open the HP App and sign in with your HP account.
  2. Find the printer tile → click the Settings gear.
  3. Choose Remove printer, Forget this device, or Hide printer.
  4. Restart the app to verify it’s gone.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
