I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 shows that it's connected to the Wi-Fi network but appears offline or shows an error message when you try to print, there are several steps you can take to resolve the issue:
1. Restart Your Devices
- Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Router: Restart your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in.
- Computer: Restart your computer.
2. Check Printer and Computer Connection
- Ensure your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Verify the Wi-Fi signal strength is strong enough to maintain a connection.
3. Set the Printer to Online
- Go to Devices and Printers on your computer.
- Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 printer icon.
- Select See what's printing.
- In the new window, click on Printer and ensure Use Printer Offline is unchecked.
4. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Firmware: Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page, enter your printer model, and download any available firmware updates.
- Drivers: Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can also update drivers from the same HP support page.
5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to identify and resolve issues with your printer.
6. Reinstall the Printer
- Remove Printer: Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968, and select Remove device.
- Reinstall Printer: Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page, download the latest drivers, and follow the installation instructions.
7. Check Printer Spooler Service
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
- Ensure the startup type is set to Automatic.
8. Reset Network Settings

9. Assign a Static IP Address
- Access your router's settings and assign a static IP address to your printer.
- On your printer, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > IP Address Configuration and set it to Manual.
10. Check Firewall Settings
- Ensure your firewall is not blocking your printer's communication. Temporarily disable the firewall to see if printing resumes.
