I can't understand a single thing about this printer

Every time in the past I have gotten it to work it's taken me 3 to 6 hours and I got it working out of pure luck. I am so fed up with this product which does nothing...I've been trying to print out legal documents for 3 hours so. It doesn't scan and doesn't print the whole page- I can't even reproduce the half printing now. Please help! Almost 2am!

True -- The 2800e printers are entry level printers -- they do include limitations.

For example,

This DeskJet series supports Wireless on the 2.4GHz frequency -- no 5GHz.

One of the most significant of the limitations is the requirement for a larger margin along the bottom edge.

DeskJet printers might not "center" content very well, if at all, and do not support Borderless printing.

DeskJet Printers typically do not support automatic Duplex printing.  The full driver software and HP Scan provides a manageable workaround to help make the task of Duplex printing less painful.

All that and yes - the printer should work and should cooperate when asked to do a task it supports.

-- What to do? --

Alert the printer to the paper size and type -- do this before submitting your print job.

AND

If you can print the legal document as "Fit to Page" or similar, the printer might cooperate and print the content on the sheet without chopping off the bottom.

I do not know whether the content will fit as expected or that the pages will be centered.

Does it matter? 

Perhaps -- "legal documents" can mean paper size or "Legal Documents" can mean paper size AND format.

Printer - DeskJet Margins, Borderless, Duplex Printing

The following is relevant to using a DeskJet Printer, even the model that includes the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).

Reminder

At this writing, DeskJet printers require a larger margin along the bottom edge --

12.7mm (1/2 inch)

Duplex Print Options

Manual (driver support provided)

and

Borderless Printing

No

Print Margin Bottom (A4)	12.7 mm	.5 inch
Print Margin Left (A4)	3 mm	.1 inch
Print Margin Right (A4)	3 mm	1. inch
Print Margin Top (A4)	3 mm	.1 inch

The margin limitation is mechanical.

There is no software, firmware, or alignment that changes the larger margin requirement.

The general solution to prevent chopped content is to keep all data inside of 12.7mm (1/2 inch) on the bottom edge, including all page numbers, footer information, or other notations.

Set your Word margins to no smaller than "Narrow"   12.7mm Metric  / 1/2 inch Imperial

Before submitting your print job to the printer, alert the printer to the "Large" paper size / type setting.

The printer lacks a full service printer control panel -- use the Embedded Web Server to view and adjust the Tray and Paper Settings.

Notes

Depending on the printer model, the Printer Control Panel touchscreen might provide access to Paper Size / Type settings immediately after the paper is (re)loaded into the appropriate printer intake tray or when the tray is opened and then closed.

Reminders

EWS (Embedded Web Server) provides access and control for Settings, including Tray and Paper.

Paper Size, Type, and Weight loaded in the printer tray must be supported for use in that tray.

      Note → If the browser security will not let you open EWS, try a different browser.

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)
