Hi @Eveningshift,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The EC error code on your HP Smart Tank 6001 printer typically indicates a problem with the ink cartridge. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

Check the Ink Levels: Ensure that the ink levels in all cartridges are sufficient. If any cartridge is low on ink or empty, replace it with a new one.

Reinstall the Ink Cartridges: Sometimes, simply removing and reinstalling the ink cartridges can resolve the issue. Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, then carefully remove each cartridge and reinsert it firmly into its slot.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Ink residue or dust on the cartridge contacts can cause communication errors. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Open the cartridge access door and gently clean the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water. Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. This simple step can often clear temporary errors.

Update Firmware and Software: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates on the HP support website. Also, make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer.

Reset the Printer: If the issue persists, try resetting the printer to its factory defaults. Consult your printer's manual or the HP support website for instructions on how to perform a reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
