We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Due to frozen conduit my fiber company is unable to fix my account until it melts. Fidium is estimating that this will not happen until late April. Until that time I am running under a hotspot and am unable to use my printer — help.

Hi @Mule1969

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Since your printer is not working properly with the hotspot, the best option is to use Wi‑Fi Direct printing. This allows your computer or mobile device to connect directly to the printer without needing a router or fiber connection.

Here are the steps you can follow on Windows:

Enable Wi‑Fi Direct on the Printer

  1. On the printer’s control panel, open the Wireless or Network menu.
  2. Look for Wi‑Fi Direct and turn it On.
  3. The printer will display a Wi‑Fi Direct name (for example: DIRECT‑xx‑HP‑PrinterName) and a password.

Connect Your Windows Device

  1. On your computer, open Wi‑Fi settings.
  2. From the list of available networks, select the printer’s Wi‑Fi Direct name.
  3. Enter the password shown on the printer’s screen.
  4. Once connected, your computer will have a direct wireless link to the printer.

Add the Printer in Windows

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Devices > Printers & scanners.
  3. Select Add a printer or scanner.
  4. Choose your printer from the list and click Add device.
  5. Wait until Windows completes the setup.

Print Using the HP App

  1. Open the HP App on your computer.
  2. Select your printer from the list.
  3. Choose the document or photo you want to print.
  4. Adjust settings as needed and click Print.

This method bypasses the hotspot limitations and ensures you can continue printing until your fiber service is restored. Would you like me to also provide the steps for printing directly from a mobile device using Wi‑Fi Direct?
