When you change your Wi-Fi password, your HP Smart Tank printer will lose its connection because it still has the old credentials saved. Here’s how to reconnect your HP Smart Tank 580–590 series printer to your updated Wi-Fi:

Step 1: Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode

This puts the printer back into pairing mode.

  • On the printer control panel
    1. Press and hold the Wireless button for about 5 seconds until the wireless light starts blinking.
    2. This means the printer is ready for setup.


Step 2: Reconnect Using HP App

  1. Download or open the HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site on your phone or PC.
  2. Make sure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
  3. In HP Smart, tap Add Printer → select your printer.
  4. Enter the new Wi-Fi password when prompted.


Step 3: Alternative – WPS Method

If your router supports WPS:

  1. Press the WPS button on your router.
  2. Within 2 minutes, press the Wireless button on the printer.
  3. The printer will connect automatically.


Step 4: Confirm Connection

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to verify the new Wi-Fi connection.
