Hi @Bluecat823,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're encountering an issue with updating HP Instant Ink status on your OfficeJet 5212 and seeing the message "Connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status," here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
**1. Verify Network Connection
- Make sure your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. Print a network configuration page from the printer’s menu to check its network status.
- Reconnect your printer to your Wi-Fi network. Follow the instructions in your printer’s manual or use the HP Smart app to reconnect.
- Ensure that your router is functioning properly and that other devices can connect to the internet.
**2. Check HP Instant Ink Account Status
- Go to the HP Instant Ink website and log in to your account.
- Verify that your account status is active and that there are no issues with your subscription or payment information.
- Ensure that your printer is registered with your HP Instant Ink account. If not, follow the instructions on the HP Instant Ink website to add your printer.
**3. Update Printer Firmware
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your OfficeJet 5212 model.
- Download and install the latest firmware for your printer.
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- Check for firmware updates through the app and follow any prompts to update.
**4. Reinstall HP Instant Ink Software
- Uninstall the HP Instant Ink software from your computer.
- Restart your computer and reinstall the software from the HP Instant Ink website or through the HP Smart app.
- After reinstalling, open the HP Smart app or HP Instant Ink software and follow the prompts to add your printer and update its status.
**5. Reset Printer Network Settings
- Access the printer’s control panel and navigate to the network settings.
- Perform a factory reset of the network settings to clear any saved configurations and start fresh.
- After resetting, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network following the setup instructions.
**6. Check Printer’s Connectivity
- Print a network configuration page from the printer’s menu to ensure it is connected to the correct network.
- Ensure that the printer’s IP address is correctly set up and that there are no IP conflicts on your network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
