Hi @Altara,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
When your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer is stuck searching for a router, it indicates that the printer is having trouble detecting or connecting to your Wi-Fi network. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
Steps to Connect HP OfficeJet 5255 to Wi-Fi:
Restart Printer and Router:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the router from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the router back in and wait for it to fully restart.
- Turn the printer back on and try connecting to Wi-Fi again.
Check Wi-Fi Network:
- Ensure that your Wi-Fi network is working correctly and that other devices can connect to it.
- Make sure the Wi-Fi network is not hidden and is broadcasting its SSID (network name).
Move Printer Closer to Router:
- Place the printer closer to the router to ensure a stronger signal during the connection process.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi Using the Wireless Setup Wizard:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Network or Wireless settings menu.
- Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
- The printer will search for available networks.
- Select your Wi-Fi network from the list and enter the network password.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
Check Router Settings:
- Ensure that the router's 2.4 GHz band is enabled, as many printers do not support the 5 GHz band.
- Disable MAC address filtering on the router, or add the printer's MAC address to the list of allowed devices.
Reset Network Settings on Printer:
- Resetting the network settings on the printer can help resolve connectivity issues.
- On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults.
- Confirm the reset and try connecting to Wi-Fi again using the Wireless Setup Wizard.
Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Altara,
Please find the next set of steps below.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure that the printer firmware is up-to-date. An outdated firmware version can cause connectivity issues.
- Go to the HP Support website, enter your printer model, and check for firmware updates.
- Download and install any available updates.
Manually Connect Printer to Wi-Fi:
- If the Wireless Setup Wizard does not work, you can try manually connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable.
- Open a web browser and type the printer's IP address (found on the printer's control panel under Network settings) into the address bar.
- In the EWS, navigate to the Network tab and select Wireless (802.11).
- Click on Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Check for Interference:
- Ensure there are no physical obstructions or electronic devices (like microwaves, cordless phones) between the printer and the router that could cause interference.
If the Problem Persists:
Factory Reset the Printer:
- Perform a factory reset to resolve persistent issues.
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Confirm the reset and try connecting to Wi-Fi again.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact HP Support for further assistance.
