Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I have an HP LaserJet MFP M29w printer. It was connected by Wi-Fi a number of years ago. The Wi-Fi was provided by my Hotspot feature of my phone plan. I don't have that phone plan any longer and no longer have that network SSID.

Now, I have a new router system in my home and I need to setup that printer with the new network.

I followed instructions for resetting the printer to factory settings. I ran the HP Easy Start app and it found the printer but it returned an error that stated that it couldn't configure the network settings.

How can I get this connected to my new network?

Hi @dhughneil,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Let’s resolve this issue and get your HP LaserJet MFP M29w printer connected to your new home network.

Since you've already reset the printer and used HP Easy Start (but ran into an error), we’ll try alternative steps to configure the network settings successfully:

1. Perform a Network Reset on the Printer

Replacing the previous network settings with your new Wi-Fi information is key:

Turn on the printer.

Press and hold the Wireless Button on the printer until the light starts blinking. This action puts the printer into Wi-Fi setup mode and clears the old network configuration.

2. Connect Using the WPS Method

If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):

Press and hold the Wireless Button on the printer until it starts blinking.

Press the WPS Button on your router within 2 minutes.

The blinking light on the printer will turn solid, indicating a successful connection.

3. Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

You can manually configure the network settings via the printer’s web interface:

Temporarily connect your printer to your computer or smartphone using Wi-Fi Direct (enabled by pressing the Wireless Button).

On your device, go to Wi-Fi settings and connect to the printer’s network (e.g., “HP-Print-XXXX”).

Open a browser and type 192.168.223.1 into the address bar to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Navigate to Wireless Settings, input your new Wi-Fi SSID and password, and save the changes.

4. Reinstall the Printer Using HP Smart

If HP Easy Start continues to fail, try using the HP Smart App for setup:

Download the app on your computer or smartphone.

Make sure your device is connected to your new home network.

Add your printer within the app and follow the on-screen prompts to configure Wi-Fi.

5. Troubleshoot Router Compatibility

Ensure your router broadcasts on the 2.4 GHz band, as many HP printers, including the M29w, do not support 5 GHz networks.

If your router broadcasts dual bands, temporarily disable the 5 GHz band during setup.
